MIF

MIF (Maker Interchange Format) is the native Adobe FrameMaker graphics format. It was designed to enable the exchange of FrameMaker files across software versions and hardware platforms. Importing vector graphics into FrameMaker in the MIF format enables engineers and technical writers to:

• Fully edit drawing objects and text in FrameMaker
• View them in sharp, scalable vector quality on screen
• Print them in vector quality to non-PostScript printers
• Scroll through documents faster

• Output can be defined for placement as anchored frame or for insertion as standard or custom page size
• Reassemble pages together in book
• Supports vector graphics, raster images, text and fonts
• Understands and converts curves
• The file size of the FrameMaker document with imported MIF file shrinks when saved in binary .fm format.

Technical documentation workgroups at Micron in Europe and the USA use PDF FLY to move technical graphics into their FrameMaker documents as MIF. They also produce WMF files for Microsoft Office.

Qualcomm runs PDF FLY Server to enable automatic conversion of EPS graphics from MATLAB, Visio and other technical applications into MIF for use in their FrameMaker technical publishing system.

Mentor Graphics integrated PostScript exports options into their FPGA/PLD Integrated Design Flow Software using the FLY SDK. This added functionality gives electronics designers the option to export diagrams in MIF and other vector file formats to meet their varied publishing needs.
